Agatha Christie Festival 2014 in Torquay (Hub Events Part 1)

The Agatha Christie Festival 2014 returns bigger and better than ever before. As promised here is my follow up to my first blog post Agatha Christie Festival 2014 in Torquay which I advise reading first. The events this year are split into Hub events and Fringe events. With so many fantastic events on I have had to split the Hub events up into different parts so here is Part 1 summarising events running from September 14th 2014 – September 17th 2014.


 

Hub Events - 14th September 2014

CHILDREN’S DETECTIVE TRAIL - Sunday 14th September 2014 - Torre Abbey, Torquay 

Aimed at the younger generation the Children’s Detective Trail is all about tracing clues to find out who is the murderer.


TOM ADAMS BOOK COVER EXHIBITION & THE BOOK BENCH
September 14th – 21st 2014 - Torre Abbey, Torquay 
Gain access to the Tom Adams Book Cover Expedition which consists of  a collection of beautiful Agatha Christie book cover paintings. Entry fee is £5. 


ALL THINGS VINTAGE & LOVELY FAIR
September 14th 2014 - 11:00 am - 4:30 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay 
30 stalls will be set up throughout Torre Abbey selling a collection of vintage clothing, accessories and homeware. There will be live dancers, music and demos running throughout the day. Entrance is £5 but this also gets you access to the Tom Adams Book Cover Exhibition. 


SONIA BECK AND ADRIAN METCALFE SHORT STORY READINGS
September 14th 2014 - 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay 

Sonia Beck and Adrian Metcalfe present two short stories from the Canaries in an afternoon of readings. The two short stories consist of “The Companion” & “The Mystery of the Plymouth Express. £15 entry fee.



THE MONOGRAM MURDERS: THE NEW POIROT NOVEL WITH SOPHIE HANNAH
September 14th 2014 – 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay 

The Monogram Murders will be the public launch of the first ever official Agatha Christie continuation novel. 


 

Hub Events - 15th September 2014

AGATHA CHRISTIE’S POTENT PLANT TOUR
September 15th 2014 - 11:00 am - 12:00 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay

Lead by head gardener Ali Marshall come and find out about the plants in the garden often used in Agatha Christie’s works. £7 entry fee.


SOPHIE HANNAH – BEYOND POIROT
September 15th 2014 - 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay  
International bestselling novelist Sophie Hannah will be discussing her career and work as a thriller writer and poet. There will be extracts read out from her stable of bestselling novels and poetry and is joined by BBC Radio’s David Fitzgerald. 



KATE SUMMERSCALE – THE SUSPICIONS OF MR WHICHER
September 15th 2014 - 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay

Join Kate Summerscale, author of the award-winning book The Suspicions of Mr Whicher. She talks about her 2008 documentary. Entrance is £5


MYSTERY FILM EVENT WITH JOHN CURRAN
September 15th 2014 - 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay
Atttend a unique screening of a very rare Agatha Christie film that is not commercially available as well as hearing some vintage radio adaptions of another Agatha Christie film. Hosted by Dr John Curran an award winning author of Agatha Christie’s Secret Notebooks. Entrance is £5.00

INTERNATIONAL PANEL EVENT WITH JOHN CURRAN AND RAGNAR JONASSON
September 16th 2014 - 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay 
Join Dr John Curran and crime novelist Ragnar Jonasson  as they debate with an international panel of Christie collectors and enthusiasts the worldwide appeal of the Queen of Crime. £7 Entry.


SUSANNA JONES – CRAFTING THE THRILLER
September 16th 2014 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay 

Susanna Jones discusses her work and the novelists who have inspired her. Susanna Jones has published four acclaimed novels Entry is £7.


S.J. PARRIS – THE HISTORICAL THRILLER
September 16th 2014-  7:00 pm - 9:00 pm - Torre Abbey, Torquay 

Join best selling crime novelist SJ Parris as she talks about writing her historical crime thrillers and what it takes to carry out such thorough research that goes into her novels.
